Southside medical is a private medical clinic. This means it is independent of the NHS. It offers appointments to see a private GP who can help you manage your health in a similar fashion to your NHS GP but you pay a fee for the service. The main benefits of doing this are you can have faster access to a GP, choice of longer appointments, continuity of doctor and more control over your healthcare. We are also able to offer a more personalised approach to your healthcare with health checks tailored to your individual needs and concerns.
Yes. We recognise that it can sometimes be difficult to fit a GP appointment for yourself or your family into a busy working week or around school hours. We therefore offer evening appointments on a Wednesday. In the near future we hope to also offer early morning and weekend appointments to make seeing a doctor as easy as possible.
• Prescriptions for controlled drugs such as sedatives (eg Diazepam) and strong painkillers (eg Morphine, Tramadol, Gabapentin).
• Repeat prescriptions for medications normally issued through your own GP. (unless in exceptional circumstances).
• Treatment for medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes or sepsis. If you feel you have an urgent concern or medical emergency phone 111 or 999.
• Treatment for serious injuries, bleeding or suspected fractures. In these situations please attend the nearest Emergency Department directly or phone 111 or 999.
Payment will generally be made online when you book your appointment or health check. You can also pay by card at the clinic.
Not always. Some policies will cover private GP consultations however many do not. Some medical insurers will require you to pay for your appointment at the time of booking and you may then be able to claim back the cost from your insurer, however this varies depending on your policy and it is always advisable to check. Southside Medical will provide receipts for all services.
It’s easy, just complete our online patient registration survey when booking your appointment. Please remember the more accurate information you can provide, the more this helps us provide the best care.
Registering at Southside Medical will not in any way affect your NHS GP registration. We aim to work alongside and compliment your existing NHS service.
Yes. We are able to issue prescriptions for most medications your NHS GP usually prescribes, including antibiotics where clinically appropriate. Please note these will be private prescriptions which will incur a prescription fee.
No. At present our consultations are strictly by appointment only. However there will usually be same day appointments available to book via the website.
Southside Medical is not suitable for emergency care. If you feel very unwell or have emergency symptoms such as chest pain, breathless or suspected stroke then please phone 999.
We offer the flexibility of early morning and evening appointments during the week. Beyond this we are unable to see patients out-with clinic opening hours.
Sometimes. For urgent or emergency medical problems we will generally be able to liaise with NHS colleagues for further care. Unfortunately for non-urgent issues or referrals it can often be difficult to refer directly into NHS outpatient pathways. If this is not possible then we will discuss your options of further referral to a private specialist clinic or you can choose to resume follow up with your registered NHS GP.
Absolutely. Just register with your details online and book an appointment following the normal booking process.
We will never share your personal information with anyone else or any other organisation without your consent. We have a strict confidentiality policy and comply with all data protection legislation. The only exception to this would be in the very unlikely event of an emergency situation where your safety or the safety of someone else was at risk.
The doctors are all fully qualified and registered with the General Medical Council. This includes undergoing annual appraisal and a commitment to continuing professional development to ensure we are up to date with the latest medical evidence and guidance. Southside Medical clinic is regulated by Health Improvement Scotland (HIS) to maintain the highest standard of working environment for staff and patients.
